SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE CACTUS & THE COAST
Hi, I’m Marisa, the founder of The Drifted Cactus.
One day while fishing with my husband, I spotted a prickly pear cactus growing behind the mangroves along the shoreline. Something about it felt so unexpected, yet so fitting. I couldn’t help but think about how much it represented my life, two worlds blending into one.
Growing up, I spent many of my days in South Texas, what I always refer to as the Texas desert, surrounded by prickly pear cactus and red clay. It’s where I spent a lot of time hunting and working with the cattle I raised & showed. At the same time, I always had a deep love for the coast. I grew up near Galveston, traveled to different beaches over the years, and spent a lot of time shopping at my cousin’s local surf shop, so naturally I grew up loving that lifestyle.
As I got older and married my husband, Jake, whose love for fly fishing and the coast runs deep, naturally so much of our life became centered around the water. These days, many of my favorite moments are spent on a boat, by the coast, or somewhere in between.
After 11 years in the boutique industry building Southern Sol, the first business I founded and still help with today, I knew this next chapter needed to feel personal and intentional. I wanted to create and curate pieces inspired by the lifestyles we love most, and that cactus on the coastline kept coming back to my mind.
And that’s how The Drifted Cactus was born.
From our exclusive graphics to the everyday pieces we curate, so much of this brand is inspired by real life, everyday moments, and the places that have shaped us. This brand is slower and more intentional in this season of my life, and my biggest “why” behind all of it is our son, Henry. Getting to slow down, soak in these little days and raise him surrounded by both worlds my husband and I love most.
